October 2019 Meeting Minutes

The meeting of the High Country Handiworkers was called to order at 7:05 p.m. on October 14, 2019 by President Brooke Carlson. 

The pledges were led by Victoria Freeland and Eden Copeland.

Roll call was taken by club leader Cindy Buckardt by asking the question, “What projects did you do this year and what was your favorite?” 

Josh Ryan moved to table the July meeting minutes and to vote on their approval at the November meeting due to a lack of members who had read them. Seconded and APPROVED. 

The treasurer’s report was given by Cindy Buckardt in the absence of treasurer Lizzy Fetzer: checking = $1,266.04, savings = $3,957.80.

There was no reporter’s report. Walker Cameron was absent.

The sunshine report was led by Eden Copeland. We had three October birthdays. 

There was no Cloverbud report. Leader Lacey Adams was absent and the Cloverbuds had not met since July.

Leader’s Report:

Exchange Club is accepting members ages 13–18. The group will host the first year and travel the second year.

Junior Leader Club is open to members ages 13+. They meet once per month rotating locations between The Ranch and the Extension office in Fort Collins.

Cindy asked 4-H trivia questions and handed out 4-H pencils as prizes.

An overview of parliamentary procedure was given by leader Rob Ryan.

Old Business:

Thank You Notes – Cindy reminded members to send thank you notes to sponsors of special awards received at fair and also to project superintendents, especially shooting sports.

Truck Raffle – How many truck raffle tickets we sold and who the winners were.

Club Completion – Our club had 85% completion for the year. Livestock books have also been submitted.

4-H Open House – The extension office sent a thank you card telling us they were happy we could be there and participated in the Open House.

New Business:

Enrollment – Enrollment will open on October 16. The enrollment deadline for returning members is February 1 and March 16 for new members.

Cloverbuds and Leathercraft Meetings – Meetings are now on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Construction Supply House.

Turning Pens for the Troops – Pen turning for military service personnel, one of our club community service projects, will be held on November 3 at Woodcraft. There is a Signup Genius on the club website. 

Achievement Night – Will be on November 8 at 6:30 p.m. Club members are encouraged to attend, especially since some of our club members will be receiving awards.

Friends of the NRA Banquet – October 26 in Longmont. Josh Ryan moved to cover $25 of the $35 cost for each leader attending. Seconded and APPROVED.

Shooting Sports Orientation – Returning members will attend one combined orientation for all disciplines on January 23. Two workshop dates and times are being worked out for new participants.

There were no demonstrations.

Ryley Peterson moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m. Seconded and APPROVED.
