April 2021 Meeting Minutes

Submitted by secretary, Eden Copeland.

The High Country Handiworkers meeting was called to order at 7:09 p.m. on April 19, 2021 by President Josh Ryan. The meeting was held in person at the First National Bank of Omaha Building at The Ranch and also on Zoom.

The pledges were lead by Gavin Johnson and Avery Kemper.

Roll call was taken by Cindy Buckardt with the question “How many projects are you taking this year?”

We had a special guest named Bailey Shilling, the extension agent for livestock and shooting sports.

The secretary’s report was posted on the club website. Walker Cameron moved to approve the minutes for March. The motion was seconded and APPROVED.

The treasurer, Clara Coats, was no present. Cindy gave the treasurer report: checking = $3,599.33, savings account = $6,331.93, CD = $2,061.59.

CharLee Davis was absent and therefore we didn’t have a reporter’s report.

Morgan and Eden Copeland led the sunshine report in Wyatt Grundy and Kathryn Cox’s absence. We had five birthdays and we sang.

Avery Kemper led the Cloverbuds report. The Cloverbuds made bunnies, played Bingo, were visited by Squishy the turkey, and worked on the 4-H pledge.

Leader’s Report:

McKee Building Status – We think we might be able to use the McKee building beginning on May 1. Our club will likely still be in the First National Bank of Omaha Building because of our numbers.

4-H Truck Raffle – There won’t be a truck raffle this year.

Project Manuals – Manuals were available at tonight’s meeting, or members can get them at the next meeting or at Cindy’s office. Shooting Sports pins and targets from State are also available to pick up.

Sheep and Goat Weigh Day – Weigh day is April 26.

Animal IDs – IDs for dogs, cats, and horses are due by May 1 on 4HOnline.

MQA – Meat quality assurance will be May 14 from 4:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. Members are required to attend once as a junior member and again as a senior member.

For the parliamentary procedure report we learned how to make a motion, why we have a second, and how to address the chair.

New Business:

4-H Carnival – The Foundation wants to know if clubs want to hold the carnival this fall. It would be on Sunday, October 11 possibly from 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Members would not sell tickets. If the carnival doesn’t happen this fall, tickets from this year would be honored next spring. Brooke Carlson moved to not have the carnival. Seconded and APPROVED.

Club T-Shirts – Members voted for their 3 picks. The top 5 designs will be posted for voting online. The winner will be the t-shirt design.

Demonstrations:

  • Brooke Carlson – Nutrition and digestion for goats.
  • Justin Grundy – Junior Leadership Club for 4-H members over 14-years-old. Junior Leadership meets once per month.

Kayden Boutte moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded and APPROVED. Adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
