March 2022 Meeting Minutes

Submitted by secretary, Eden Copeland.

The High Country Handiworkers meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. on March 14, 2022 by President Josh Ryan at the McKee Building at The Ranch.

The pledges were led by Hannah Jones, Keegan Lusczakoski, Emmit Closz, Alexis Hickey, and Charlie Gilmore.

Roll call was taken by club leader Cindy Buckardt due to secretary Eden Copeland absence. This month’s question was “What projects are you enrolled in?”

Gideon Rivera moved to approve the secretary’s report from February as posted on the club website but there was no second. Trinity Dunham moved to change “same as last year” to “same as 2020” under the 4-H Carnival. The motion was seconded and APPROVED with the change.

Treasurer Trinity Dunham presented the treasurer report. In the checking account, we have $4,073.32, in the savings account we have $5,588.24, and the CD has $2,064.13. Trinity explained the increase in the checking account from last month was due to the carnival ticket sales.

Club reporter Morgan Copeland was absent but the reports were submitted to the local papers.

Avery Kemper led the sunshine report for the March birthdays.

Avery Kemper, the junior leader, presented the Cloverbud report. In February, they made fish with paper plates, read a story, and ate snacks.

Leader’s Report:

Beekeeping Project – The next meeting will be on April 20 at 6:00 p.m. A speaker will be there from the Butterfly Pavilion. Cloverbuds are welcome to come.

Foods Project – Leader Amy Gebhardt is leading the meeting on the first Monday of every month at 6:00 p.m. At the last meeting they brought Irish food to share: corned beef and cabbage, potato candy, and soda bread.

Sportfishing – There was an ice fishing trip on Saturday, February 19 at Dowdy Reservoir in Red Feather. Logan Dunham caught the first fish.

Old Business:

4-H Carnival Baskets – Our baskets for the 4-H Carnival brought in the following winning bids:

  • Colorado/Sports in wagon = $175
  • Hunting/Camping in wagon = $390
  • Sweets Basket = $130
  • Colorado Rockies firebox made by Dawson Leypoldt = $125
  • Metal Flag made by Nate Rogers = $190

4-H Carnival Volunteers – We need volunteers to haul supplies for the booths from Berthoud to the Ranch on Friday night and get things set up. We’ll also need help to haul everything back to Berthoud at the end of the carnival.

4-H Carnival Booth Ticket Prices – There was a discussion about whether our ticket prices were too high, low, or perfect. Some members thought they were too low, but others don’t want to make them too high so that families can’t come to the carnival.

4-H Carnival Prizes – We ran out of prizes so bring prizes to donate next year. Maybe we should do different and smaller prizes for the lollipop pull.

Thank you to Suzanne Leypoldt for keeping things running for our booths all day!

Parade Theme – The parade board is asking for parade theme ideas. If you have one, send the idea to Cindy and it will get submitted. Winners get the float entry fee paid for. It has not been voted for yet.

New Business:

Club Shirts – There will be an order form on our website. The club will cover the cost of shirts for new members, Cloverbuds, and leaders, or the cost of a shirt towards a hoodie.

Demonstrations:

  • Avery Kemper: Caring for a bum lamb,
  • Walker and Willow Cameron: Identifying ducks in the wild.

Walker Cameron made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded and APPROVED. Josh Ryan adjourned the meeting at 8:04 p.m.
