July 2022 Meeting Minutes

The High Country Handiworkers meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. on July 11, 2022 by President Josh Ryan at the McKee Building at The Ranch.

The pledges were led by all members who volunteered.

Members went outside to hear a demonstration from Abigail, Chloe, Grace, Hannah, and Jethro Jones about goats.

Roll call was taken by club leader Cindy Buckardt.

Josh Ryan asked for a motion to approve the secretary’s report as posted on the club website. Maddi Jessen pointed out a misspelling in her name under Demonstrations, and Gideon Rivera found an error in the parade date. Maddi Jessen moved to approve the secretary’s report from June with the revisions. The motion was seconded and APPROVED.

Treasurer Trinity Dunham presented the treasurer report. In the checking account, we have $1,478.24, in the savings account we have $5,589.62, and the CD has $2,064.38.

The club meeting report was submitted to the local papers by the club reporter, Morgan Copeland.

Nick Freeland and Walker Cameron went to the National Shooting Sports Championships in Grand Island, Nebraska. Nick competed in Air Rifle and Walker competed in .22 Rifle.

Cindy Buckardt presented the Cloverbud report. In June, they went on a field trip to Twin Silo Park. At the next meeting on July 18 at 6:30 p.m., Cloverbuds should bring hammers to the meeting to work on a project for county fair.

Leader’s Report: 

Dress Code – Reminder that the 4-H dress code is in effect anytime members are at 4-H events or at the county fair. The full 4-H dress code is here: https://co4h.colostate.edu/resources/ColoradoDressCode.pdf.

Shooting Sports – Ribbons for county shoots were passed out. There will be an email sent out containing the information about the fees for state shoots and state shoot shirts.

Livestock – Poultry will not be shown at the fair, but members still need to complete their record book to complete the project.

Fair Entry – Cindy read names of members who were NOT entered in the fair. They were asked to see her for help after the meeting.

Old Business:

Fair Parade – The theme is “Cowboy Boots and Country Roots.” Karley Rivera from the club’s float committee spoke about the plans for decorating the float with clovers and boots. We will meet to decorate the float on Friday, July 29 at 6:00 p.m. There will be pizza. The parade is at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 30. Members should meet at Fairgrounds Park at 9:00 to board the float. Please wear cowboy boots if you have them. We discussed what to hand out during the parade. Suggestions were candy, pennies, plant seeds. Levi Shrout moved to hand out candy. Seconded and APPROVED.

Discounted Rodeo Tickets and Carnival Wristbands – 4-H Night at the rodeo is on August 8. If you go to 4-H night, please wear your 4-H shirts. The order form is available now and is posted on the website. The due date is July 26. You can pick up your tickets on August 2, 2022 while you are doing your interviews.

New Business:

FAFLC Fireworks Stand – Thank you to those who volunteered to work at the fireworks stand.

Dairy Bar – The Junior Leadership Club is asking for clubs to volunteer at the dairy bar. We discussed the preferred times for our club to take shifts. There will be a SIgnUpGenius posted.

Record Books – All record books must be signed by the Club Leader: Cindy Buckardt. She will be available to review and sign on July 29 when we decorate the float. Record books must be complete before she’ll give them her signature.

September Meeting – Our next club meeting will be a potluck at Fairgrounds Park on Monday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m.

Trinity Dunham moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded and APPROVED. Josh Ryan adjourned the meeting at 9:20 p.m.
