March 2023 Meeting Minutes

Submitted by secretary, Eden Copeland.

The High Country Handiworkers meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. on March 13, 2023 by President Josh Ryan at the McKee Building at The Ranch.

The pledges were led by Lillian Stewart, Reagan Stewart, and Gavin Chope.

New roll call procedure: Please take your nametag from the alphabetized file box at the start of the meeting, when you grab your agenda and Parli Pro book. Then at the end of the meeting, drop the name tags in the buckets at the exits of the room. This will be more effective for roll calls, saving time going through the entire list of members.

Walker Cameron moved to approve the minutes from February as submitted by Eden Copeland and posted on the club website. The motion was seconded and APPROVED.

Treasurer Gideon Rivera presented the treasurer’s report. In the checking account, we have $5,074.16, in the savings account we have $5,591.03 and the CD has $2,089.47.

The meeting report was submitted by club reporter Avery Kemper to the local papers and posted to our club website and social media.

Willow Cameron, Paisley Dennis, and Charlie Gilmore led the sunshine report for the March birthdays. Sympathy cards were circulated for Dennis Hansen’s family.

At their February meeting, the Cloverbuds made butterflies using coffee filters, played 4-H Bingo, and learned the 4-H pledge.

4-H Carnival – A recap of the carnival is posted on the club website. Suggestions were discussed to improve for next year:

  • Parent Support: Please, no drop and run. We need parents to volunteer with their members.
  • Iron Man: Instead of prizes, offer certificates or stickers that read “I rung the bell at Iron Man” or something similar. Have a leader board on a dry erase board at the booth.
  • Iron Man: Increase the age for the small one. 12 and under instead of 9.
  • Iron Man: Supply ear plugs for those working this booth, and maybe the vendors nearby.
  • Ammo Pull: Have separate colors
  • SignUpGenius: Have slots for members AND parents for each booth.

Community Service at Courtyard Assisted Living – More to come soon from coordinators, Heather Leppert and Sarah Rodden.

New Business:

Meat Quality Assurance (MQA) – MQA is required for members doing a livestock project. Members must do the MQA training if they are new to livestock, and once as a junior and once as a senior. The make-up date to attend is May 19. Members will need to find a date in another county if they can’t attend.

Club Shirts – T-shirt designs were posted on the wall for members to vote. Each member could vote for two. A ballot will be posted on the website to choose the final design.
