The High Country Handiworkers meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. on April 10, 2023 by President Josh Ryan at the McKee Building at The Ranch.
The pledges were led by Abby McNear, Paige Box, and Summer Box.
Roll call procedure: Please take your nametag from the alphabetized file box at the start of the meeting, when you grab your agenda and Parli Pro book. Then at the end of the meeting, drop the name tags in the buckets at the exits of the room. This will be more effective for roll calls, saving time going through the entire list of members.
Walker Cameron moved to approve the minutes from March as submitted by Eden Copeland and posted on the club website. The motion was seconded and APPROVED.
Treasurer Gideon Rivera presented the treasurer’s report. In the checking account, we have $1,266.97, in the savings account we have $5,591.72 and the CD has $2,089.47.
The meeting report was submitted by club reporter Avery Kemper to the local papers and posted to our club website and social media.
Willow Cameron, Paisley Dennis, and Charlie Gilmore led the sunshine report for the April birthdays. Cards were circulated to welcome Pam Heeney back at the extension office, and for Aiden Cornet to feel better.
At their March meeting, the Cloverbuds played animal bingo and created a baby animal craft.
Leader’s Report:
Clover Connection – Be sure to read the Clover Connection newsletter to learn about upcoming workshops, events , and news for your projects.
Calendar – Look at the calendar on the website so you won’t miss any important dates.
Project Workshops – Please attend the workshops specific to your project. If you have a conflict with the club meeting, go to the workshop and then come to the meeting afterward if possible.
Construction at The Ranch – Emails will be sent about traffic pattern changes due to the ongoing construction.
Visual Arts – The group has been sculpting, and will be focusing on weaving next month.
Beekeeping – On April 12 at 6:30 p.m., the beekeeping group will host a special guest speaker from the Butterfly Pavilion.
Foods – Foods and beekeeping will have a joint meeting on May 1.
Photography – The next meeting will be on April 18.
Scrapbooking – Leader Barb Hummel hosted members to create two-page layouts on April 8. The group will meet again in June.
Sewing – Hanna Copeland is the leader and is hosting a meeting on April 15. Bring your sewing machines.
Junior Leadership Club – The next meeting will be April 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the McKee Building.
Rob Ryan presented a parli pro report and talked about how to make a motion and vote.
Old Business:
Community Service at Courtyard Assisted Living – Currently there isn’t anything happening but the committee is reaching out.
New Business:
Meat Quality Assurance (MQA) – MQA is required for members doing a livestock project. Members must do the MQA training if they are new to livestock, and once as a junior and once as a senior. The make-up date to attend is May 19. Members will need to find a date in another county if they can’t attend.
Club Shirts – T-shirts as well as pullover hoodies and zipper hoodies are now available to order on the club website. The design was chosen by members through online voting. The deadline to order is April 28. The club supplies a t-shirt (or the equal value discount from a hoodie) for each club member, Cloverbud, and leader. Additional shirts can be ordered at full price.
Fair Parade Committee – A fair committee was formed including Barb Hummel, Hanna Copeland, Karley Rivera, Felicia Snyder, and Lorinda DeLeau.
Demonstration Nights – Every member is required to present a demonstration. Demonstration nights have been scheduled for June 2 and June 30 at 5:30 p.m. to allow members to do them outside of club meetings. Do NOT wait until the last meeting in July to do your demonstration!
Demonstrations:
- Kai Harris: making an observation hive for beekeeping,
- Rebekah Greenwald: pet ferret,
- Logan Cumpsten: steam engine model and how it works,
- Hailey McNear: dog obedience.
Charlie Gilmore moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded and APPROVED. The meeting was adjourned by Josh Ryan at 8:06 p.m.
