November 2018 Meeting Report

The High Country Handiworkers 4-H Club met on Monday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the McKee Building at the Ranch in Loveland, Colorado.

The club and its members did very well at Larimer County achievement night.

The club voted to do a community service at the next meeting, wrapping presents for Foster and Adoptive Families of Larimer County.

Enrollment for the 2019 4-H year is open. For returning members the deadline is January 15. If new members are interested in joining 4-H, the enrollment deadline is March 1. For more information, go to https://larimer.extension.colostate.edu/programs/4-h/

On the 4th of November, volunteers from our club turned pens for the troops. 100 completed writing pens are being sent to service men and women.

The club will have officer elections at the December meeting.

Club leader, Cindy Buckardt, presented achievements to the club members for the past year. Member pins, livestock record books, and special awards were given out.

There were demonstrations presented about the stages of gestation for goats, tips on buying a rabbit, a member’s Captain America woodworking project, a member’s bucket seat project for home environment, proper vaccination methods, and Portuguese water dogs.

The next meeting will be on December 10 at 7:00 p.m.

October 2018 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. by President Brooke Carlson.

Pledges were led by Cael Claude and Marley Gebhardt.

Roll call was taken and the question was “What was your greatest accomplishment this past year in 4-H?”

Walker Cameron moved to approve the minutes as published on the club website. Seconded and APPROVED.

Treasurer’s report by Nate Rogers: savings = $2,323.91 and checking = $3,265.81.

Reporter’s report by Walker Cameron: all reports were submitted to the Reporter-Herald and the Coloradoan and also posted on our social media pages.

Sunshine report by Cael Claude: we had three birthdays for August, September, and October. We passed around a thank you card for Pam for all she does, another thank you card for Megan for all the hard work she did at fair, a farewell card to Keeton who had to move just before fair, and lastly, a get well card for a 4-H mom who is struggling with cancer.

Cloverbuds report by Lacey Adams: In September the Cloverbuds had a meeting on fire safety and then on October 5 they went on a field trip to Fire Station 3 in Loveland and had a tour of the station. 

Leaders Report:

Renewing Leaders – All leaders need to take the refresher course for the new year before enrolling on 4honline.

Shooting Sports Leader Meeting – There is a shooting sports meeting on Thursday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. to review the shooting sports handbook for 2019.

No Early County Shoots – FYI for shooting sports participants: there will no longer be any early county shoots. Please look at the Shooting Sports calendar now and save the dates now.

Leathercraft and Cloverbud Meeting Change – Leathercraft meetings and Cloverbuds meetings this year are the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Old Business:

Fair Recap – Fair recap and along with that we read all the thank you cards from kids at fair that had received the awards our club sponsored

Truck Raffle Ticket – Reminder that this is our club’s main fundraiser and we need all members to participate in the selling of the tickets.

Livestock Record Books – Livestock record books have been turned in for the competition. A reminder: all livestock participants are expected to complete record books.

New Business:

Enrollment – Enrollment opens October 16 everyone needs to enroll.

Turning Pens for the Troops – Stay tuned for pen turning community service project in November.

Achievement Night – Achievement Night will be Friday, November 2 at 6:30 p.m. Please come and support those who are getting an award and support our fellow club members as well.

4-H Carnival – Save the date for the 4-H Carnival on March 2, 2019.

Club T-Shirts – Think of ideas for club t-shirts and bring them to the next meeting.

Officer Elections – Elections are coming up in December. Start thinking about the offices if you want to run.

Club Requirements – We chatted about expectations and how to address getting everyone to complete their project. Because that is part of a member’s job.

Club Achievement Night at November Meeting – We will celebrate our club’s achievement night at the November meeting. Don’t miss out on the club’s and members’ achievements.

Demonstrations:

  • Walter Buckardt about channel catfish.
  • Alexis Grundy about the tools you need to groom a horse.

There was a motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded and APPROVED. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.

October 2018 Meeting Report

​The High Country Handiworkers 4-H Club met on Monday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the McKee Building at the Ranch in Loveland, Colorado.

The Cloverbuds toured Fire Station 3 and learned about fire safety.

Many club members placed at county fair and went on to compete at state fair. It was a successful year.

The club will be getting new t-shirts this year and members are encouraged to bring design ideas to the next meeting. 

Enrollment for members and leaders is coming up beginning October 16. All returning leaders need to complete refresher training.

The Larimer County 4-H achievement night will be on November 2 at 6:30 p.m.

There were demonstrations about channel catfish and grooming a horse.

The next meeting will be on November 12 at 7:00 p.m.

Monthly Foods Project Meetings

Mark your calendar for the first Monday of each month for Foods Project Meetings. Members taking part in the Foods project and anyone else who is interested is welcome to attend.

​Our first subject for the November meeting is savory holiday appetizers. Yum!

July 2018 Meeting Minutes

The meeting of the High Country Handiworkers was called to order at 7:12 p.m. on July 16, 2018 by President Brooke Carlson.

The pledges were led by all members who needed leadership for their record book.

Grace Gray moved to approve the minutes from the June meeting as published on the club website. Seconded and APPROVED.

The treasurer’s report was given by Nate Rogers: checking account = $3,866.66 and savings account = $2,323.26.

The sunshine report was led by Vice President Breelyn Caffey in the absence of Brice Caffey and Cael Claude. We combined July and August birthdays, so we had a total of 8 birthdays for both months.

The Cloverbud report was presented by Cloverbud leader Lacey Adams. At June’s meeting, the Cloverbuds decorated white T-Shirts with red, white, and blue paint. At July’s meeting, the Cloverbuds decorated leather coasters for their fair projects.

Leaders Report:

Extension Agent – Keeton Ehrig who was in charge of shooting sports and livestock resigned. Megan Blaser will be handling a lot of the activities.

Interview Judging – Sign-up opens on July 25 at 12:00 a.m. Help would be appreciated for interview judging day and the next day to help set up the exhibit hall.

Old Business:

Dress Code – Remember the 4-H dress code throughout fair.

Fair Parade – Members need to be at the fairgrounds park at 8:00 a.m. on July 28. Bella Kendrot moved to purchase candy to pass out during the parade not to exceed $100 on candy. Seconded and APPROVED. A discussion followed about the float theme and float ideas led by activity leader Rob Ryan. July 27 is the float building at Construction Supply House at 6:00 p.m. Pizza will be provided by the club.

Truck Raffle – Go on the club website to sign up to help sell truck raffle tickets.

Demonstrations:

  • Jacob Simpson on how to do leathercraft.
  • Tate Simpson on how to load a muzzleloader.
  • Martha Simpson on safety rules for shooting sports.
  • Doug Porter on the supplies you need for fair to show market swine.
  • Taylor Trull on how to clean a muzzleloader.
  • Stanley Rhodes on how to keep your rabbit cool in the summertime.
  • Ella Craft on rabbits.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 8:51 p.m. Seconded and APPROVED.
