Club News for October 7

How wonderful it is that we are starting a new 4-H year! Welcome to 2023–2024!

Club Meeting / Monday, October 9

Our first club meeting of the new 4-H year is this Monday, October 9 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the McKee Building. We will be meeting in our usual rooms: Berthoud, Loveland, and Fort Collins.

Members

For returning members, follow SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), as they say, upon entering the room:

  • Get your name badge from the file boxes,
  • Pick up a meeting agenda,
  • Take a parliamentary procedure book,
  • Grab a pen/pencil to use if you don’t have one.

New Parking Procedure

The Ranch has instituted paid parking for ticketed events at the Blue Arena (formerly the Budweiser Events Center). Our understanding is that scanners will capture license plate numbers and those who have not pre-paid will receive a bill, similar to driving on E-470 and receiving the charge for the toll.

4-H families DO NOT have to pay parking at 4-H events. But the following procedure is necessary to NOT be charged for parking.

Take note of the license plate number of the vehicle you drive to the meeting. When there is a ticketed event, we will gather the following information and turn it in to The Ranch to remove you from their billing:

  • First and Last Name,
  • License Plate Number,
  • License Plate State.

Demonstrations

Returning members, this is a great opportunity to present a demonstration and get that requirement out of the way. Please go to the club website at hch4h.org and then the Signups page to choose a demonstration slot.

Pick Up Projects and Premiums

Projects and premiums that were not picked up from county and state fair will be available at Monday’s meeting. After Monday, families will need to make special arrangements to pick them up.

Roll call procedure: Please take your nametag from the alphabetized file box at the start of the meeting, when you grab your agenda and Parli Pro book. Then at the end of the meeting, drop the name tags in the buckets at the exits of the room. Cindy asked whether this procedure was working. It was said that this procedure is much faster than reading everyone’s names. However, it also makes it hard to put faces with names. It was suggested that maybe we should create a membership directory. We will continue with the current roll call procedure.

Maddi Jessen moved to approve the minutes from June as submitted by Eden Copeland and posted on the club website. The motion was seconded and APPROVED.

Treasurer Gideon Rivera presented the treasurer’s report. In the checking account, we have $1,149.80, in the savings account we have $5,592.42 and the CD has $2,102.64.

The parli pro report by Rob Ryan talked about the responsibility when voting. Before deciding to vote in favor of something, make sure you can volunteer. This means asking your parents, and following through on what you are voting for. For the July 4th Parking fundraiser, the majority of the club approved, but only two families signed up.

Old Business:

Community Service at Courtyard Assisted Living – Sarah Rodden would like to schedule something each month with a theme: Valentines, reading partners, planting flowers, Easter. They have fewer than 35 residents.

Fair Parade Committee – The committee is made up of Hanna Copeland, Karley Fitzgerald-Rivera, Felicia Snyder, and Barb Hummel, Lorinda DeLeau. The theme is “Through the Decades.” We will construct the float on July 28 at 6:00 p.m. at Construction Supply House. We will have pizza, Cindy will sign record books, and we will decorate. For the parade day on July 29, we have a trailer, but need a vehicle able to pull the gooseneck—Cumpstens volunteered. We will have water available and candy to pass out.
