Livestock Sale Add-ons

Did you know you can support our 4-H livestock members even if you didn’t buy an animal at the Livestock Sale? You can contribute any dollar amount to a 4-H member by doing a Livestock Sale Add-on.

Go to the payment portal (https://www.treventscomplex.com/plan-your…/payment-portal) and then Select Service Type “Larimer County Fair Jr Livestock Add-on.” Include your name, the child’s name, species, and a dollar amount. It’s a great way to show your support!

Sheep / Meat Goat Clinic

Join us for a sheep and goat workshop from 4:00–8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2 at the Round-up Outdoor Arena.

This workshop will go over the importance of setting goals, a good nutrition plan, exercise, and daily care. After this discussion, you will have the opportunity to practice with your project animal(s) if you choose to bring them. We will talk about how to set up your animal and what you need to highlight when exhibiting your animal. This will create another discussion on the importance of evaluating your animal before the show.

Please reach out to Bailey Schilling (schillbw@co.larimer.co.us) or any of the key leaders for further information.

New 4-H Livestock, Horse, Shooting Sports Extension Agent

Bailey Schilling, a Colorado native, grew up in Larimer County where he was an 11-year 4-H member. Bailey showed goats, lambs, cattle, and participated in archery during his 11 years. He was also a member of the Livestock Judging Team from 2012–2014 and represented Colorado at the National Contest in Louisville, Kentucky in 2013. Along with operating Schilling Boer Goats, Bailey credits the 4-H judging program for setting the foundation of his success. It taught him valuable evaluation techniques, quick decision-making skills, and the experience in public speaking that enabled his success in numerous opportunities he encountered.

Following judging in 4-H he received scholarships to begin his collegiate judging career at the junior college level where he accepted an offer from Illinois Central College. After two years of being in the midwest, he returned home to judge for the Rams. Bailey graduated CSU with a B.S. in Animal Sciences in 2018, and then an M.S. in Animal Sciences in 2019. Before deciding to start a career in extension Bailey coached the Livestock Judging Team at CSU for two seasons. He is excited to help progress various programs by adding additional educational opportunities to allow for better understanding amongst members in their respective projects.

Urban Ranchers Virtual Camp

In honor of the National Western Stock Show, Arapahoe County 4-H is running Urban Ranchers Virtual Camp through the month of January.

The Urban Ranchers Virtual Camp is a virtual, self-paced animal science camp that began on January 13, 2021.

The Urban Ranchers Camp brings the ranch to your living room! Through this virtual camp, youth will learn about agriculture, livestock, and animal care. Various farm animals will be featured throughout the program including cattle, chickens, ducks, goats, horses, pigs, and sheep. Youth go on virtual tours of cattle farms, learn how to milk a goat, and can even “virtually” ride a racehorse. Youth can enhance their experience by using the 2021 Ag Adventure Guide.

The program is geared toward youth ages 8–13 but all youth are welcomed!

The camp is completely FREE but we do ask for youth to register here: https://forms.gle/P2uNSZTawNsDkg1dA.
