Officer Meeting for 2020 Transfer

Last year’s club officers and the new officers for 2020 should arrive for the club meeting on Monday, January 13 at 6:30 to discuss the transition. This includes President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, Historian, and Sunshine People. Bring any notes, notebooks, etc. ready to transfer.

December 2019 Meeting Report

The High Country Handiworkers 4-H Club met on Monday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the McKee Building at the Ranch in Loveland, Colorado.

Enrollment is due for returning members by February 3, and for new members it is due by March 16. 

Officers for the upcoming year were elected: President, Josh Ryan; Vice President, Nate Rogers; Secretary, Andrea Newby; Treasurer, Clara Coats; Reporter, CharLee Davis; Sunshine, Kathryn Cox and Wyatt Grundy; Historian, Morgan Copeland.

The Larimer County 4-H Carnival will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020. The club voted on the themes for auction baskets at the carnival. And the themes are outdoor/hunting/fishing and dogs.

There were demonstrations about the Passports to Foreign Cookery project and the difference between largemouth and smallmouth bass. 

The club completed a service project, wrapping presents for the Foster and Adoptive Families of Larimer County’s Christmas party, and then ate Christmas cookies.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at the McKee Building.

December 2019 Meeting Minutes

The meeting of the High Country Handiworkers was called to order at 7:07 p.m. on December 9, 2019 by President Brooke Carlson in the exhibit hall at the McKee Building.

The pledges were led by Ethan and Nolan Osusky.

Roll call was taken by Secretary Grace Gray, and the question asked was, “What is your favorite Christmas tradition?” 

Josh Ryan moved to approve the minutes as posted on the club website. Seconded and APPROVED. 

The treasurer’s report was given by Cindy: checking = $492.18, savings = $3,956.30.

The reporter’s report was given by Cindy.

The sunshine report was led by Eden Copeland and we had three December birthdays. Cards were passed around for members to sign for Megan Blaser, Brittani Kirkland, and Pam Heeney.

Leader Lacey Adams and Kinzie Copeland gave the Cloverbud report. They made turkeys and played Thanksgiving bingo. 

Rob Ryan presented parliamentary procedure highlights on how elections are handled and the importance of running for an officer to take advantage of the leadership opportunities.  Each office and the responsibilities were described.

Leader’s Report: 

Cake Decorating Manuals – New project manuals are available for all Cake Decorating units and items have been added to units.

Shooting Sports Orientation – Returning members on January 23 and new members or those shooting a new discipline on January 25. The orientations will now be for all disciplines at one time.

Outdoor Skills and Western Heritage – Leader Jackie Easthouse informed members that the first meeting for Outdoor Skills is February 13 in the McKee building. A schedule for Western Heritage meeting is also available.

Old Business: 

McKee Building Painting – Devon and Hayley McNear were the only 4-H youth to participate in the project.

Enrollment – Enrollment is due for all returning members on February 3. The sooner enrollment is complete, the better.

New Business: 

Officer Elections – Elections were held with the following officers being elected: President Josh Ryan, Vice President Nate Rogers, Secretary Andrea Newby, Treasurer Clara Coats, Sunshine Kathryn Cox and Wyatt Grundy, Historian Morgan Copeland, Reporter CharLee Davis. 

Carnival Baskets –  Members nominated themes for this year’s Carnival baskets. The club decided on 1) Outdoor/Fishing/Hunting and 2) Dogs.

Demonstrations:

  • Brooke Carlson, Passports to Foreign Cookery project from last year.
    She talked about being awarded the Grand Champion at the state fair and receiving a trip to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, GA.  She went right after Thanksgiving and found it to be a great trip. There were 18 delegates from Colorado, three from Larimer County.
  • Walter Buckardt, The difference between largemouth and smallmouth bass. 

Morgan Copeland moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:52 p.m. Seconded and APPROVED.

The club then wrapped Christmas gifts for the Foster and Adoptive Families of Larimer County and enjoyed a variety of cookies brought by club members to share.

November 2019 Meeting Minutes

The meeting of High Country Handiworkers was called to order at 7:06 p.m. on November 11, 2019 by President Brooke Carlson. The meeting was held in the Exhibit Hall of the McKee Building at The Ranch.

The pledges were led by Cael Claude and Clara Coats

Roll call was taken by Secretary Grace Gray with the question, “What’s your favorite cookie?”

Cael moved to approve the July minutes as posted on the club website. Seconded and APPROVED. Cael then moved to approve the October minutes as posted on the club website. Seconded and APPROVED.

Secretary Grace Gray read two thank you cards the club received for sponsoring county fair awards.

The treasurer’s report was given by Lizzy Fetzer: checking = $1,176.04. savings = $3,956.30.

The sunshine report was led by Eden Copeland and Cael Claude. We had two November birthdays.

Cindy gave the Cloverbud report. The Cloverbuds made bird feeders out of pine cones and they also turned pens with the rest of the club on November 3.

Leader’s Report:

Enrollment – Started on October16 and ends on February 1 for returning members. New members can enroll through March 16.

Cake Decorating Manual – There are new cake decorating project manuals this year and project options have been expanded.

Old Business:

Turning Pens for the Troops – Delaney Newby reported that the Pen Turning for the Veterans was awesome and the club made a lot of pens as a community service project on November 3, 2019.

New Business:

The club did excellent at fair!

Painting the McKee Building – There will be a community service project to paint the interior of McKee Building on December 7. There will be a SignUpGenius on the club website.

Demonstrations: 

  • Delaney Newby, Parts of a rabbit,
  • Andrea Newby, Stages of a goat’s gestation,
  • Morgan Copeland, How to put an elastic waistband in a skirt,
  • Eden Copeland, Tools used in leathercraft.

Club Achievement Night:

Club Leader Cindy Buckardt presented members with their certificates of completion for 2019 and livestock record book awards. She also recognized Nate Rogers and Nick Freeland for their outstanding performance in Shooting Sports and qualifying for Nationals, Brooke for being  selected for National Congress and winning Leadership awards, and Delaney and Andrea for winning the Congeniality Award at County Achievement Night.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m. Seconded and APPROVED. 

October 2019 Meeting Minutes

The meeting of the High Country Handiworkers was called to order at 7:05 p.m. on October 14, 2019 by President Brooke Carlson. 

The pledges were led by Victoria Freeland and Eden Copeland.

Roll call was taken by club leader Cindy Buckardt by asking the question, “What projects did you do this year and what was your favorite?” 

Josh Ryan moved to table the July meeting minutes and to vote on their approval at the November meeting due to a lack of members who had read them. Seconded and APPROVED. 

The treasurer’s report was given by Cindy Buckardt in the absence of treasurer Lizzy Fetzer: checking = $1,266.04, savings = $3,957.80.

There was no reporter’s report. Walker Cameron was absent.

The sunshine report was led by Eden Copeland. We had three October birthdays. 

There was no Cloverbud report. Leader Lacey Adams was absent and the Cloverbuds had not met since July.

Leader’s Report:

Exchange Club is accepting members ages 13–18. The group will host the first year and travel the second year.

Junior Leader Club is open to members ages 13+. They meet once per month rotating locations between The Ranch and the Extension office in Fort Collins.

Cindy asked 4-H trivia questions and handed out 4-H pencils as prizes.

An overview of parliamentary procedure was given by leader Rob Ryan.

Old Business:

Thank You Notes – Cindy reminded members to send thank you notes to sponsors of special awards received at fair and also to project superintendents, especially shooting sports.

Truck Raffle – How many truck raffle tickets we sold and who the winners were.

Club Completion – Our club had 85% completion for the year. Livestock books have also been submitted.

4-H Open House – The extension office sent a thank you card telling us they were happy we could be there and participated in the Open House.

New Business:

Enrollment – Enrollment will open on October 16. The enrollment deadline for returning members is February 1 and March 16 for new members.

Cloverbuds and Leathercraft Meetings – Meetings are now on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Construction Supply House.

Turning Pens for the Troops – Pen turning for military service personnel, one of our club community service projects, will be held on November 3 at Woodcraft. There is a Signup Genius on the club website. 

Achievement Night – Will be on November 8 at 6:30 p.m. Club members are encouraged to attend, especially since some of our club members will be receiving awards.

Friends of the NRA Banquet – October 26 in Longmont. Josh Ryan moved to cover $25 of the $35 cost for each leader attending. Seconded and APPROVED.

Shooting Sports Orientation – Returning members will attend one combined orientation for all disciplines on January 23. Two workshop dates and times are being worked out for new participants.

There were no demonstrations.

Ryley Peterson moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m. Seconded and APPROVED.

October 2019 Meeting Report

​The High Country Handiworkers 4-H Club met on Monday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the McKee Building at the Ranch in Loveland, Colorado.

Club leader, Cindy Buckardt, recapped the end of the last 4-H year and announced opportunities for the coming year. Our club received a 3rd place trophy for our float in the parade. Members should be sure to write thank-you notes to their project superintendents and award sponsors. Our club’s completion percentage was 85% for projects last year.

The exchange club is accepting new members, hosting the first year and traveling the second. The Junior Leader Club is accepting new members. Cloverbud and Leathercraft meetings will be moving to the third Monday of the month for this 4-H year.

Our club will be participating in Turning Pens for the Troops on November 3rd. The wood for writing pens is shaped in a lathe and then pens are shipped to members of the military.

4-H Achievement Night is on November 8th at the McKee Building. Enrollment opened on October 16th. There will be a Foods project meeting on November 4th.

The next meeting will be on November 11th at 7:00 p.m. at the McKee Building.
