2023 Carcass Contest Results

Thank you to all of you who attended the carcass seminar and awards night. It truly is a privilege to be in the backyard of the University, because it allows us to utilize facilities like the newly renovated CSU Meat facility. It is rare that counties are able to view carcasses from sheep, swine, and beef during the same night as carcass formula discussion. –Bailey Schilling

Public Presentation Contest / June 10, 2023

Learning to speak in public is one of the best life skills that we can help our youth develop. Alumni of the 4-H program often point to public speaking as one of the most useful things they learned in 4-H, leading to success in their future careers. In the public presentation program, youth learn to organize their ideas, share emotions and creativity, and communicate clearly.

The Public Speaking Contest will be held on Saturday, June 10.  Check-in is at 12:00 p.m. and the contest starts at 12:30 p.m.  It will be held in the Timnath and LaPorte rooms in the McKee Building at The Ranch.

This contest is open to all 4-H members 8–18 years old.

Rules and tip sheets can be found on the Larimer Extension Website: https://www.larimer.gov/extension/larimer-county-4-h/additional-opportunities/4-h-public-presentations.

Contest options include Impromptu Speeches, Demonstrations & Illustrated Talks, and Interpretive Reading.  Demonstrations and Illustrated Talks can be presented by a team of two; all others are individual contests.

Members are encouraged to review the expectations and requirements for each of the divisions and choose the area(s) in which they would like to participate. Each of the competitive divisions will have three classes: Juniors (4-H age 8–10), Intermediates (4-H age 11–13), and Seniors (4-H age 14–18.) There will be no events for Cloverbuds (4-H age 5–7).
