Club News for July 1

30 Days Left!

It is amazing how much is happening now. The Larimer County Fair is getting closer—only 30 days until Interview Judging Day, and then Livestock starts showing.

National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships

This past week, the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships was held in Grand Island, Nebraska. Larimer County was fortunate enough to have 4 youth attend. A total of 34 Colorado members qualified in 9 disciplines.

Qualification takes place during the state shoot the previous year. Larimer County had 2 of the 4 members on Colorado’s Compound Archery team: our own club’s Walker Cameron and Jude Rudd. Walker finished 4th OVERALL…AMAZING! Jude was 38th of the 111 participants and the Colorado team was 2nd of the 32 teams! Tristan Noyer shot Recurve Archery and placed 37th out of 68. She was one of a few to shoot a traditional barebow. The Colorado Recurve team was 9th out of 22 teams. Our club’s own Tait Simpson competed in Muzzleloader and finished 57th out of 71, and the Colorado team placed 6th of 22 teams. This is quite an accomplishment for all four of these shooters. It is certainly something for all of our club members who participate in shooting sports to strive for.

Demonstration Night

Last night we held our second Demonstration Night and had 16 fantastic demonstrations given. See the club website for the titles of their presentations. It was a fantastic variety and as always, I learned something new.

4th of July Parking Fundraiser

At the last club meeting, a discussion was held about having a 4th of July fundraiser. A motion was made, seconded, and voted on. During our parliamentary procedure reports, Mr. Ryan has explained many times about the importance of voting. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to vote and each member has the ability to agree or disagree about a motion by casting their vote.

The club members voted to park cars on the 4th of July at the Stowers Orthodontics on Taft in Loveland right across from Lake Loveland. The Snyder family was kind enough to bring this fundraising opportunity to us, and the signup is on the club website hch4h.org on the home page.

Now, we need members to sign up! This is a club event and we need members who voted to approve it to volunteer. Our club just spent over $2,000 on club shirts for our members, so this fundraiser would help increase our available funds. Thank you for signing up!

Fair Entry

Fair Entry is due by July 7! Be sure to enter for your projects and interview judging.

Shooting Sports County Shoots

County shoots are kicking off! Make sure to sign up before the deadlines for your disciplines.

Those in Archery, please note that the event has been moved to the afternoon of July 8 to allow families and leaders to attend Jim Easthouse’s memorial service that morning.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to help with setting up chairs and tables for Jim Easthouse’s memorial service. If you are able to assist, please come to the Foundation Church in Loveland on Friday, July 7 at 9:00 a.m.

Foods Meeting on July 3

The Foods meeting is this Monday, July 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the McKee Building. Our theme is Red, White, and Blue foods.

What an exciting time of year—watch for all the e-mails that will be coming over the next month!

Who Can Participate:
Anyone who will be making a wearable garment in the following projects: Clothing Construction (except Sewing for Others), Artistic Clothing, Buymanship, Heritage Arts, Leathercraft, and Western Heritage. Please click here to read the rules/information.

What is Fashion Revue?

The Larimer County Fashion Revue is a contest that gives you an opportunity to model your project in front of judges during the day and then for your family/friends in the evening. It is a low-stress, fun day where you get to hang out with other 4-H members and show off your creation.

How is it judged?

You will model your outfit in front of two judges. The judges look at your overall look and will not be judging the construction of the outfit. For example, if you have made a skirt, you will match it with a top, shoes, and accessories of your choice. The judges will look at how your outfit looks overall and how it fits you.  Please click here to see the scoresheet.

How do I find out more?

Come to the Fashion Revue Workshop on July 10th at 6:30 p.m. in the Laporte Room at The Ranch. You will learn how to model, what to expect during judging, get ideas on how to create the perfect outfit, and have plenty of time to ask questions. You must sign up for the Fashion Revue on FairEntry (as with your other projects) by July 7th.

Cloverbud Information for Fashion Revue

Cloverbuds may participate in the evening Public Revue. To participate, please email Jo Ann Belk at csuramfans@msn.com. Cloverbuds also need to complete a narration form in a  Word document, size 14 font, double-spaced, and email it to Jo Ann Belk at csuramfans@msn.com by the Fair entry deadline on July 7.

Cloverbuds must also attend the rehearsal from 4:00–5:30 p.m. on July 26 at the McKee Building.  Cloverbuds do not need to make the garment they are wear, but they must be able model without assistance. Cloverbuds will model no more than one garment in the Fashion Revue.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Jo Ann Belk at csuramfans@msn.com or 970-231-3654.

Club News for May 30

It’s hard to believe that the Larimer County Fair interview judging is only 62 days away. Have you started on your project yet?

Demonstration Night

Have you done your demonstration yet? This is a requirement. We are hosting a Demonstration Night this Friday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the McKee Building. It is a smaller group and I will be more than happy to assist you with a subject and walk you through presenting the demonstration. I have lots of display boards in storage for shooting sports, rabbits, sportfishing, and more that you can certainly use. There is a signup on the club website at hch4h.org/signups.

Project Manuals

The following projects MUST complete a portion of the project manual and turn it in with the fair project:

  • Vet Science,
  • Horseless Horse,
  • Computer Science,
  • Electrics,
  • Small Engines,
  • Woodworking,
  • Entomology,
  • Gardening,
  • Outdoor Adventures,
  • Ceramics,
  • Leadership,
  • Scrapbooking,
  • Home Design.

Metalworking requires extra pictures, beyond the standard 4.

Heritage Arts requires a history report.

It is very important that you have your project manuals—some of you have not picked them up yet.

If you have any questions, please ask—I am here to help.

Discounted Rodeo Tickets and Carnival Wristbands

There is an order form on the club website for rodeo tickets and carnival wristbands at a discounted rate. Go to hch4h.org/signups. The deadline to order is July 25.

Club Shirts

The club shirts are in! I could use help sorting them for each family’s order. If you are available to help, email me at csh@frii.com and let me know the best time, day or evening, and specific day. I would like to get them done sooner rather than later so I can distribute some of them prior to the club meeting. Taking them all to the club meeting is a lot of work!

2022 Larimer County Fair 4-H Competition Survey

The Larimer County Fair Competition Coordinator, Laura Boldt is asking for feedback about the 4-H competitions from members, families, and leaders. She emailed a survey today, and you can access it via this survey link.

The survey is anonymous. You do not have to complete every question. However, if you have recommendations for changes, please be specific about the area or department. The fair office will use the opinions and information submitted to plan for the 2023 Larimer County Fair.

Junior Livestock Sale Add-ons

UPDATE: The deadline for add-ons has been revised to Monday, August 22.

Did you know you can support our 4-H livestock members even if you didn’t buy an animal at the Junior Livestock Sale? You can contribute any dollar amount to a 4-H member by doing a Livestock Sale Add-on.

Go to the payment portal (https://www.treventscomplex.com/planning-your-event/ranch-event-payment-portal) and then choose Select Service Type “Larimer County Fair Jr Livestock Add-on.” Include your name, the child’s name, species, and a dollar amount. It’s a great way to show your support!
