Livestock Weigh Days, Tagging, and MQA for 2024

Market Livestock Members: Mark these dates on your calendar now! Weigh days and tagging are REQUIRED to be eligible to show at the Larimer County Fair. If you can’t be there, you must arrange for someone to bring your animal.

Weigh Days will be held at the Youth and Community Building at The Ranch. Tagging supplies for swine will be available at the extension office starting on April 1.

Members enrolled in any market and/or breeding livestock project for the first time MUST attend a Colorado 4-H Meat Quality Assurance (MQA) program, regardless of age. 4-H members must attend a Colorado 4-H MQA program a minimum of twice during their 4-H career, once as a junior and again after becoming a senior 4-H member.

Watch for more information coming in January from the extension office for your project. And if you have any questions, please ask!

Club News for November 19

Thank You!

First, Cindy would like to thank everyone for their birthday wishes, flowers, and cupcakes at the club meeting. It was very special and appreciated.

Welcome!

I would also like to welcome all the new families who attended the meeting last Monday. We look forward to your membership and participation.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all the 2021–2022 High Country Handiworkers who completed their projects. Our club members completed another successful year—a job WELL DONE!

Pick Up Projects by December 10

For those who did not attend the November meeting, I will bring your completion certificates and projects to the club meeting one last time in December. If I have your fair project, it would be helpful if you would come by our business, Construction Supply House at 806 North 2nd Street in Berthoud, and pick it up prior to the December meeting. It is a lot to load and unload. If I still have projects following the December 5th meeting, those projects will be disposed of on December 10th. I simply don’t have the space to store projects.

Food Project Meeting

Foods will meet on December 5th prior to the club meeting starting at 6:00 p.m.

December Meeting

Reminder, the December Club meeting has changed to December 5. We will be doing a club community service project, so it’s very important to attend. A community service project is required of every club member. Returning members: please sign up for a demonstration. We will also be holding officer elections.

Cloverbuds Meeting

The first Cloverbuds meeting of the new 4-H year will be this Monday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the McKee Building. Note the new location—we have outgrown my shop building.

Pick Up Your Projects / August 10 from 7:00–10:00 a.m.

All projects must be picked up at the McKee Building at The Ranch on Wednesday, August 10 between the hours of 7:00–10:00 a.m.

If you are not able to be there to check out your project, please contact Cindy so that arrangements can be made. Text is probably the best way to reach her (970-481-7993).

Here’s more info about picking up projects:

  1. ALL projects MUST be picked up Wednesday, August 10 between the hours of 7–10 a.m.  If you are unable to make this time PLEASE find someone who can pick up your fair projects for you.
  2. If your project received a Champion ribbon and you would like to compete at the Colorado State Fair you must check it in the Fort Collins room in the McKee Building. If you decide not to participate in the state fair, please notify those checking in the Fort Collins room so that the reserve champion recipient may attend. (Foods and Cake Decorating projects will check their items in on August 16 from 7:30–10:00 a.m. More information is included on the purple sheet placed in your record book.)
  3. Prior to checking in for the state fair all ribbons must be removed.
  4. All baked foods including cakes will be disposed of at the county fair with the exception of the cake forms. Don’t forget to pick up your cake boards.
  5. Don’t forget to gather not only your project including the record book but the name cards, ribbons, and trophy.
  6. Your project maximum size must be no larger than 3′-0″ in width and depth and 7′-0″ in height and not heavier than 35 lbs. If your project exceeds these measurements, then the record book may be submitted with pictures illustrating the project and an explanation that it exceeded the measurement requirements.
  7. Please bring materials to package your project to go to the state fair safely.  Any packaging materials sent to the state fair will not be returned. Please use cardboard boxes and bubble wrap or other types of materials.
  8. If you are participating in the state shooting competition and ordered a state shirt they will be available for pickup Wednesday morning. Don’t forget!

PLEASE, PLEASE if you are available we need many volunteers to help with taking down and putting away the tables and chairs. We really can use some help—there are a lot of tables.
