Virtual Livestock Skillathon Challenge

Virtual Livestock Skillathon Challenge! The challenge is open to any 4-H members…you don’t have to be enrolled in a livestock project. There is also an adult division, so parents and leaders can enter! Find rules and register by May 29 at this link: shorturl.at/KLP07. The challenge will take place from June 1–5.

Virtual 4-H Livestock Workshops by Adams County 4-H

Adams County 4-H is hosting a series of Virtual 4-H Livestock Workshops. The series will be three weeks long and will present the following topics for Market Beef, Sheep, Goat, and Swine:

  1. Animal Selection and Getting Started
  2. Grooming/Fitting and Handling
  3. Nutrition

The first session for each species is this Thursday, April 16

Swine IDs Due by May 5

Please read the following information carefully for adjustments to the Swine ID protocol for 2020:

  • We plan to hand out county fair tags to members via a check-out system at a later date.
    • This is barring additional cancellations. At this time, we don’t know when due to the rapidly changing measures taken to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
    • Cost of tags will be $5 per tag.
  • All members will be required to upload the following images of their project animals to 4HOnline.com by May 5, 2020.
    • Left Side Body Image—this will be uploaded under “Swine Market – Left Side Image” on 4HOnline.com.
    • Right Side Body Image—this will be uploaded under “Swine Market – Right Side Image” on 4HOnline.com.
    • Front Side Image—this will be uploaded under “Swine Market – Tag Image” on 4HOnline.com.
      • Please try to have a clear picture of any existing notching or tags.
    • Rear Side Image—this will be uploaded under “Swine Market – Registration Papers” on 4HOnline.com.
    • Back Image—this will be uploaded under “Swine Market – Image w/Animal” on 4HOnline.com.

Animals for the 2020 State Fair will still need to have a retinal scan. If you want to show market swine at the State Fair, email bkirkland@larimer.org by May 8 with the name of the exhibitor and the number of goats that exhibitor plans to show. At that time, the county agent will be in communication with you to sign-up for a time to have your animal tagged, notched (if needed) and for your nomination card to be filled out.

Goat and sheep weigh day which was scheduled for April 27, 2020 has been canceled. There will not be a make-up weigh day.

  • We plan to hand out county fair tags to members via a check-out system at a later date.

Beef Weigh Day 2020

​Don’t forget Market Beef Weigh Day from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at the Mac Equipment Indoor Arena. In an attempt to shorten wait times, last names beginning with the letters A–L should come between 4:00–5:30 p.m. and last names beginning with the letters M–Z should come between 5:30–7:00 p.m. (Animals will be accepted anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m.) The cost is $5.00 per animal. Please no bills larger than $20.
