Updated May 14, 2024:
Swine camp is approaching on June 7th & 8th.
Lucas Stalcup will be our clinician. Lucas grew up on a diversified farm in Montana where his family started raising show pigs in the late 1990s to meet a specific need in their community. This early experience sparked a lasting enthusiasm for the industry. This motivated Lucas to pursue a career in livestock judging and academia at Casper College and the University of Wyoming.
The Stalcup family operates approximately 30 sows primarily showcasing crossbred swine. Their main market is the Rocky Mountain region where they have enjoyed considerable success both locally and nationally over the years. They make it a priority to share their knowledge and support the young exhibitors they have the privilege to work with.
If you have not registered for this event, I would highly encourage you to do so.
The Hog Camp on June 7–8, 2024 is an opportunity for all levels of youth to get more hands-on experience and build on management styles/techniques.
Registration is REQUIRED. The cost is $100 per camper.
Market Livestock Members: Mark these dates on your calendar now! Weigh days and tagging are REQUIRED to be eligible to show at the Larimer County Fair. If you can’t be there, you must arrange for someone to bring your animal.
Weigh Days will be held at the Youth and Community Building at The Ranch. Tagging supplies for swine will be available at the extension office starting on April 1.
Members enrolled in any market and/or breeding livestock project for the first time MUST attend a Colorado 4-H Meat Quality Assurance (MQA) program, regardless of age. 4-H members must attend a Colorado 4-H MQA program a minimum of twice during their 4-H career, once as a junior and again after becoming a senior 4-H member.
Watch for more information coming in January from the extension office for your project. And if you have any questions, please ask!
The Jingle Bell Jackpot will be hosted by Larimer County Extension, Weld County Extension, and the Colorado Junior Swine Association on December 3, 2023 at Island Grove Regional Park in Greeley. We are excited to add a Wether Dam Show for both does and ewes to this event!
Thank you to all of you who attended the carcass seminar and awards night. It truly is a privilege to be in the backyard of the University, because it allows us to utilize facilities like the newly renovated CSU Meat facility. It is rare that counties are able to view carcasses from sheep, swine, and beef during the same night as carcass formula discussion. –Bailey Schilling

From Bailey Schilling:
There is an exciting opportunity for you to join this year’s Hog Camp. We are happy to welcome Bryan Williams as the clinician for this camp. Bryan is the creator of judgingpro.com which assists members in understanding animal evaluation, show ring success, and basic livestock knowledge. Bryan has worked very closely with several successful breeders in the swine industry, along with raising and feeding highly competitive show pigs. Bryan has built a career working with youth by serving as an FFA instructor. We are excited to welcome Bryan, and he’s excited to share his knowledge with you.
The camp will be on June 9–10 in the East Pavilion at the Ranch.
If you are interested in attending this event, please fill out a registration form and deliver it to the extension office or email it to Bailey Schilling. Registration will be completed when it is coupled with a payment. Please register as soon as possible.
Larimer and Weld County along with the Colorado Junior Swine Association will be putting together the 6th Annual Jingle Bell Jackpot Show on December 3, 2022 at Island Grove Regional Park in the Beef Barn. Please feel free to reach out to the contacts provided on the flyers for any questions.
Let’s give a big congratulations to our club members who brought home awards in the Carcass Contest! Jessie McCrimmon: 1st for Swine; Trinity Dunham: 2nd for Beef; Josh Ryan: 3rd in Goat. Very impressive! For a small livestock club, that’s awesome!
