The meeting of High County Handiworkers was called to order at 7:16 p.m. on July 8, 2019 by President Brooke Carlson. 

The pledges were led by Morgan Copeland, Joshua Ryan, Clara Coats, Anna VanderWahl, and Wyatt Grundy. 

Roll call was taken by Secretary Grace Gray, and the question asked was, “How many of your projects are done?” 

Ava Lewis moved to approve the minutes as posted on the club’s website. Seconded and APPROVED. 

The treasurer’s report was given by Lizzy Fetzer: checking = $1,722.93, savings = $2,158.93. 

The reporter’s report was given by Walker Cameron. June’s meeting report was submitted to the Coloradoan and Reporter-Herald, as well as social media and the club’s website. 

The sunshine report was led by Eden Copeland. We have four July birthdays and there will be five August birthdays.  

Lacey Adams gave the Cloverbud report. The group made scrapbook pages with their favorite picture for their entries for fair. 

Leader’s Report: 

Entry forms are due July 15, and can be turned in today to Cindy.

We have a new State Shooting Sport Shirt design. Cindy is looking for feedback from club members.

Old Business: 

Demonstration Night – 11 club members participated on demonstration night and all did very well. Pizza was furnished by the club.

Parade Float – Assembling the float for the parade and getting record books signed will be on July 26 at 6:00 p.m. 

New Business: 

Truck Raffle Ticket Sales – A SignUpGenius is on the club website to sell truck raffle tickets at the fair. This is our club’s main fundraiser and we need all member families including parents to help.

Club Picnic – Our club picnic will be September 9 at 6:00 p.m. at Fairgrounds Park. Livestock record books can be signed as well.

The sunshine report was presented by Eden Copeland. We had two June birthdays. It was also announced that JD Becker recently graduated from Thompson Valley High School, and former club members Nathan Meiners and Hannah Brunswick also graduated high school. The club got to meet our newest future members, Mackinzie Hummel and Tucker Copeland born in February and March.

Leaders Report:

County shoots are coming up.

The Premium Book for fair is now available online.

Entry forms for fair are due by July 15.

Record Book and Project Workshops for Shooting Sports are June 19 and July 17 at 6:00 p.m. Cindy will attend and all club members are welcome to attend for assistance, not just shooting sports.

Livestock Record Book Workshop is July 10th at 6:30 p.m.

Old Business:

McKee Building Painting Community Service – The McKee Building painting is going to be rescheduled.

Demonstration Night – Signups for Demonstration Night on June 21 are on the club website.

Fair Parade Theme – July 27 is the Larimer County Parade. The float will be created at Cindy’s shop on July 26. The following parents offered their services in coming up with float ideas: Karley Rivera, Amanda Kendrot, Tracie Porter, and Phylicia Mann.

New Business:

Discounted Rodeo Tickets and Wristbands – An order form is under Signups on the club website. The deadline is July 22.

Lacey Adams gave the Cloverbud report. Jackie Easthouse, Outdoor Skills Leader, visited the Cloverbuds and talked to them about different animal tracks and scat. They also played animal bingo and had trail mix as a snack.

Leaders Report: 

We discussed the importance of 4-H dress code. Items to be aware of in particular: guys can’t wear hats in meetings, watch the slogans on t-shirts, girls be aware of their tops and shorts now that the weather is warm.

Rob Ryan discussed more parliamentary procedure and discussed the different types of voting. 

Trinity Dunham received a $300 award from the Carmen Johnson Memorial for her goat project and Walter Buckardt received $200 for his woodworking project.

Old Business: 

Bowling Field Trip – Members had fun. It was a success.

McKee Building Painting Community Service – We need more signups for the McKee Building painting on June 1 from 9 a.m–1 p.m. This community service is for members in 7th grade or older and their parents.

Cake Decorating Contest – Participants in the Cake Decorating Contest told about their cakes. Eden Copeland was given a special sportsmanship award for helping another participant.

New Business: 

Club T-shirts – Club t-shirts are in and available to pick up.

Project Manuals – Manuals are in and ready to be picked up.

Fair Parade Theme – The theme for the Larimer County parade is “From Wagon Wheels to Ferris Wheels.” We will need a float committee at the June meeting.

Performing Arts Contest – Everyone is invited to participate. Registration is due on May 22, 2019.

• Doug Porter, How to stencil and carve wood.
• Lizzy Fetzer, How to show dogs.

Delaney Newby moved to approve the minutes as posted on the club website. Seconded and APPROVED.

The treasurer’s report was led by Lizzy Fetzer: checking=$5,802.37 and savings=$3,955.05.

A discussion was held about the club’s finances. A motion was made to invest $2,000 into a Certificate of Deposit. Seconded and APPROVED.

The reporter’s report was given by Walker Cameron. March’s meeting report was submitted to the Coloradoan and Reporter-Herald as well as social media and the club’s website.

The sunshine report was given by Eden Copeland, and six members are celebrating birthdays in April.

Lacey Adams gave the Cloverbud report. They played carnival games and learned about the whistle commands used in archery practices. They also got goodie bags with animal crackers and prizes inside.

The club also went over more Parliamentary Procedure led by Rob Ryan.

Leaders Report:

The Carmen Johnson Scholarship is due May 1. It gives scholarships to 4-H members for items they need to complete their projects.

Cloverbuds can attend a workshop about Performing Arts on Wednesday, April 10.

Dog ID forms are due May 1 for those in the Dog project.

Amanda Kendrot is the new superintendent for Dog.

Nick Freeland completed certification to be a junior leader for Rifle. Rex and Nate Rogers also completed new certifications.

The club learned about 4-H by playing trivia: when 4-H started, where the National office is, when it started in Colorado, etc.

Old Business:

4-H Carnival – Cindy recapped the results from the carnival. Our club had three of the top individual ticket sellers and our club sold 3,605 tickets total. Our four baskets from $1,160 total.

Club Shirts – The club covers the cost of t-shirts for members, Cloverbuds, and leaders. Make sure you get your order in.

Demonstration Night – Sign up for a slot at Demonstration Night on June 1 at 6:00 p.m. There will only be 15 demonstrations that evening.

Bowling Trip – The club is going bowling at Sweetheart Lanes on April 27 at 12:00 p.m. RSVP on the club website.

Foods Field Trip – Club members are invited to a field trip to AKA Kitchen on April 27 at 3:00 p.m. in Downtown Loveland.

New Business:

Project Manuals – Manuals have been ordered and members will be notified by email when they’re available.

Weigh Days – Livestock weigh days are coming up for Goat and Sheep on April 29 from 4–7 p.m.

Archery State Shoot – The date has been set for August 17 for Juniors and August 18 for Seniors. It will be held in a new location in Colorado City, south of Pueblo about 20 miles.

Community Service – We have several community service days coming up. McKee building Painting Day is June 1 at 9:00 a.m. Lon Hagler Cleanup Day is May 4 at 8:00 a.m. Berthoud Day of Kindness is this Saturday, April 13 at Gateway Park at 11:00 a.m. Rob Ryan is coordinating and members can work booths.

Roll call was taken by Secretary Grace Gray and members were asked to stand up when their name was called. We also played “Know your Fellow Club Members” game.

The sunshine report was presented by Cael Claude. We had 11 February birthdays. 

Lacey Adams gave the Cloverbud report. The Cloverbuds learned about kinetic sand and what makes it kinetic, they also had dirt cups as a snack. 

Leader’s Report:

Trisha Claude, Food & Nutrition Leader, is planning a field trip to AKA Kitchen in Loveland. No date has been scheduled yet. The next Foods project meeting will be at the McKee Building on Monday, April 1.

Important upcoming dates are: 7/2 Shotgun 5 Stand County Shoot; 7/9 Shotgun Trap County Shoot; 7/13 Archery County Shoot; 7/15 Fair Entry Deadline; 7/20 .22 Rifle County Shoot, Dog Show, Muzzleloading County Shoot; 7/21 Dog Show, Air Rifle and Air Pistol County Shoots;  7/27 Larimer County Fair Parade; 7/30 Interview Judging. 

The club also went over another topic regarding Parliamentary Procedure as presented by leader Rob Ryan.

Old Business:

4-H Carnival – The club had over 5 thousand tickets from their booths. Our club sold 3,605 pre-sold tickets.

Field Trip – Lacey Adams is planning a field trip to Sweetheart Lanes in Loveland on April 27. Admission cost for club members and leaders will be covered by the club. Family members will be $11.25 per person.  A SignupGenius will be on the club website.

New Business:

Fair Awards – A motion was made and approved to donate $385 to sponsor fair awards.

Parade Theme – The Larimer County Fair Parade Committee has reached out to clubs to ask for ideas for the parade theme. If you have one in mind, contact Cindy. 

Club T-Shirt Design – The club reviewed and voted on 12 t-shirt designs. A previous club design was chosen by vote, and the club also voted on the color gray. The expense of t-shirts is covered by the club for club members, including Cloverbuds and leaders.  The order form will be available on the club website soon.

Demonstration Night – Club members agreed that they would like to hold a demonstration night on a Friday evening with the club providing pizza. The date is yet to be determined.

The treasurer’s report was given by Cindy Buckardt: checking = $6,634.31 and savings =$2,324.98 as we earned $0.30 in interest.

The sunshine report was presented by Eden Copeland. We had one January birthday. Cards were circulated for member signatures.

Cindy Buckardt gave the Cloverbud Report. The Cloverbuds made hot chocolate Christmas ornaments and played Stock Show bingo.

The club also went over Parliamentary Procedure which was led by Rob Ryan.

Leader’s Report:

Enrollment – Due March 1, and if you would like to drop or add projects, please email Cindy by March 1.

4-H Carnival Booth Shifts – There is a SignUpGenius on the club website to fill shifts for the 4-H Carnival.  

Outdoor Skills orientation — February 21 at 6:30 p.m. It is required for members to take part in discipline practices.

New Business:

4-H Carnival – On February 27 at 6:30 p.m. Cindy is having a prize review for the clubs booths at her shop. On March 1 at 5:15 p.m. Cindy needs help to load the booths and to meet at the Ranch at 6:00 p.m. for set up. The club needs more items for the baskets for the auction hosted during the carnival. The basket themes are Dog Lover, Colorado Sports, and Camping. There is also a bake sale so bring a baked good wrapped individually. After the carnival is over there will be a dance hosted by the Exchange Club at 5:30 p.m.

Club T-Shirts – It’s time to create a design for the Club’s shirts. If you have any ideas have them ready to present at next month’s meeting.

NRA Banquet – There will be a NRA banquet on March 2 at 6:00 p.m. at the Marriott. Doug Porter moved and approved to fund $25 to the Shooting Sports leaders in our club as well as Sam and Ian Webb so they can attend the banquet.

• Eden Copeland about what you can do with different tips for cake decorating.

There was no Cloverbud report, because there was no Cloverbud meeting in December.

Leader’s Report:

Enrollment – The last day for enrollment is January 15th. All leaders must re-enroll and do leader training.

Hunters Safety – Course will be March 23–24, 2019.

Foods Field Trip – Trista Claude set up a field trip to the Black Garlic Spice Co. shop in Loveland on January 21, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.

Outdoor Skills – Orientation will be on February 21 and is mandatory for Outdoor Skill participants to be able to shoot archery, .22 rifle, and shotgun disciplines if not already enrolled in them.

Western Heritage – Leader Jackie Easthouse  talked about Western Heritage. The meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays at 6:00 p.m. at the Ranch.  Participants wear old west clothes, learn about the old west history, and create their own characters.

Shooting Sports – Orientation for Air Rifle, Air Pistol, .22 Rifle, .22 Pistol will be held in the exhibit hall at 6:30 p.m. on January 17 for returning members, and January 27 at 12:30 p.m. for new members.

New Business:

4-H Carnival – The booths for the club this year are Iron Man, Toilet Paper Toss, Lollipop Pull, Lock Box, and Rubberband Guns. The carnival is March 2 in the First National Bank Building.

4-H Carnival Ticket Sales – Club members can sign up to sell their tickets on January 26–27 from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. at King Soopers on Eagle Drive in Loveland. There will be a Signup Genius on the club website to choose a time slot. The 4-H member in the county to sell the most tickets will be awarded $100.

• Nate Rogers about how he made a brass 4-H clover for a pistol box for his shooting sports project.
• Juni Godfrey about fractions and how they apply to baking.

In the absence of treasurer Nate Rogers, the report was given by Bree Caffey: checking = $3,192.36 and savings = $2,324.

The reporter’s report was given by Walker Cameron. November’s meeting report was submitted to the Coloradoan and Reporter-Herald as well as our club’s social media and the club website.

​Cael Claude gave the sunshine report. We had four December birthdays.

​Cindy Buckardt gave the Cloverbud report. The Cloverbuds made placemats with recycled Christmas cards, played Christmas bingo, and decorated gingerbread cookies.

Leader’s Report:

Parliamentary Procedure – Rob Ryan will be serving as club parliamentarian. He gave a brief introduction about parliamentary procedure and why it’s important.

Foods Project – Trista Claude gave a report on the Foods project group and announced that the next meeting will be on Monday, January 7. Members should bring their favorite dishes. Trista is also working on setting up a tour of the Black Garlic shop.

Shooting Sports – Reminder that all those participating in shooting sports need to fill out a shooting sports waiver to turn in with their enrollment.

New Business:

4-H Carnival – The annual carnival is March 2, 2019.  Discussion about booths will be held at the January club meeting. A discussion was held to determine the themes for our auction baskets this year. Themes were nominated. A motion was made to do only two baskets. Seconded and FAILED. The club decided to collect items for three baskets. The basket themes are: Colorado Sports, Dog Care, and Camping.

Officer Elections – Elections were held with the following officers being elected: President Brooke Carlson, Vice President Breelyn Caffey, Secretary Grace Gray, Treasurer Lizzy Fetzer, Sunshine Cael Claude and Eden Copeland, Historian Kathryn Cox, Reporter Walker Cameron. 

Demonstrations:

• Cael Claude about the solar hat he designed and made for his Outdoor Skills project.

​The club completed a community service project, wrapping Christmas presents for the Foster and Adoptive Families of Larimer County.
