Club Achievements 2023

November was a time to celebrate the accomplishments of our club members and leaders over the past 4-H year at the Larimer County 4-H Achievement Night and our November club meeting. So much work and time went into making 2023 a success and we’re so proud of your efforts!

At the county fair, our club had 47 Champions and 25 Reserve Champions for a total of 72! That’s AMAZING! Of those, 18 went on to win Overall Grand Champion or Overall Reserve Grand Champion. And 13 members received the Best Record Book award.

At the Colorado State Fair, our club had 42 entries and 24 received either a Reserve Champion or a Champion and of those, 10 went on to win Overall Grand Champion or Overall Reserve Grand Champion. INCREDIBLE!

At the state level, Beau Reuhlen won Reserve Champion and Caden Powell won Champion at Rocket Fly Day. Avery Kemper took first place in the state digital photo contest.

At the state Shooting Sports competition, we had club members in the top 10 as follows: Bohdan Leppert and Paisley Dennis in Air Pistol; Tori Freeland in Air Rifle: Offhand and Paisley Dennis in Air Rifle: Utility; Willow Cameron, Genesis Rivera, Gideon Rivera, and Walker Cameron in Archery; Walker Cameron in Muzzleloading; and Walker Cameron in all 4 classes of .22 Rifle.

Our club received a Gold certificate for having 75%+ of our members complete the year, which was 80% to be exact.

We passed out completion certificates to all of the members who completed their 4-H year, and our leaders as well.

Catch-It-Calf Program, Sponsored by Larimer County Stock Growers Association

The Larimer County Stock Growers Association is eager to start the Catch-It-Calf program. Calves will be donated by producers in the Larimer County Livestock Growers Association. The association will accept 6 members to participate in the program for this year based on an application process. This program was created to help introduce members to the beef project and give them more practical experience with livestock handling and welfare standards. Applications will be accepted throughout the month of September—the deadline to apply is October 8, 2023. It is strongly encouraged that you become a member of the association before applying. Please send the application and any membership questions to LCSG4U@gmail.com

State Fair Project Photos

Thank you to the Cumpsten family! They traveled to the Colorado State Fair to see Logan’s Reserve Grand Champion Woodworking project, and they shared photos of our other members’ project photos.

Fair Wrap-up 2023

Another Fair is coming to an end. What a wonderful and successful year! I am very proud of each and every one who participated.

Mandatory Livestock Sale Meeting

There is a Mandatory Livestock Sale Meeting on Tuesday, August 8 at 12:00 p.m. in the bleachers of the MAC Arena. This is the opportunity to review the sale bill prior to the sale and make sure your information is correct. Look it over carefully! The Livestock Sale is Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend. There is a free barbecue dinner.

Project Pickup

On Wednesday, August 9 from 7:00–10:00 a.m. is the time scheduled to come and pick up your projects. The member does not have to be present to pick up the project. If the member or parent are unable to pick up the project(s), please let me know so I can pick them up. Be sure to collect your premium money for the ribbons received. The money should be available in the McKee Building.

Colorado State Fair Projects

If your project received a champion (dark purple) ribbon, then it qualifies to go to the Colorado State Fair (except Self-Determined projects). If you choose not to send your project to state fair, please let Pam know ASAP so the reserve champion has the opportunity to go.

If you are sending your project to state fair then you have the option to check it in on Wednesday morning by taking it to the Fort Collins Room in the McKee Building. I would suggest that you look over the project and the record book to review the comments made by the judge. You may want to take your project and record book home and improve it based on the comments. Also if you have a project that needs special packing, you may wish to take the project home and pack the item for safe travels to Pueblo. The Larimer County Extension staff will be transporting the items to Pueblo and they will also return the items back to Larimer County after the state fair. Beware that whatever you pack your project in will NOT be returned. I will be around on Wednesday morning if you would like to discuss the options and I can give feedback on the judge’s comments if necessary. If you decide to take the project home and make changes, you need to go to the Fort Collins room and let Extension know that you are planning to send the project to state fair, but you are taking it home and will be returning it to State Fair Project Check-in on Tuesday, August 15 between 7:30–10:00 a.m. All Larimer County ribbons and the comment sheet need to be removed prior to checking it in.

All Foods projects and Cake Decorating projects that qualified for state MUST be checked in to State Fair Project Check-in on Tuesday, August 15 between 7:30–10:00 a.m. If you have a cake going to the state fair, it must be decorated exactly how it was at the county fair.

If you would like to discuss any of your project placings on Wednesday, I will be happy to look them over. Please remember that judges are just people, and the ribbon placings are their opinion.

Shooting Sports Shirts

If you ordered Larimer County Shooting Sports shirts, they will be available on Wednesday morning in the McKee Building’s Exhibit Hall.

Interview Judging 2023

Hopefully, everybody had their projects done before last night and got some rest before Interview Judging today!

Interview Judging will be held in the McKee Building at The Ranch. Please arrive for your scheduled interview 15–30 minutes early for check-in. Make sure that you bring your completed record book with all necessary signatures.

If you have a large exhibit or require help to unload, park by the garage doors and come inside to notify someone at the registration table.

Everyone needs to check in and receive their exhibitor packet in the Exhibit Hall before their interview. When you are called for your interview, take your packet with you and the superintendents will help to attach your entry cards to the project and the record book.

Shooting Sports members will come to the Exhibit Hall to check in and then proceed to the back hallway and check in again in the LaPorte Room. There is a seating to wait in the hallway until you are called for your interview.

Mandatory Meetings for Junior Livestock Sale

Message from the Larimer County Jr Livestock Sale Committee:

The first of two mandatory livestock sale meetings will be held on Sunday, June 25 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the McKee Building. Another opportunity will be on Sunday, July 9 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the McKee Building.

Meeting Information

In an effort to streamline processes, answer questions, provide important information, and distribute Sale Packets, the Larimer County Junior Livestock Sale Committee will be hosting two mandatory Sale Committee Meetings. You must attend one of these meetings in order to participate in the Sale on August 9, 2023.

The meetings will review important information and changes to the Sale along with each Livestock Exhibitor that is eligible to participate in the Sale will receive their Sale Packet. The Sale Packet will contain the buyers’ contact card, brochures and information about the Sale, mandatory paperwork, and other important information.

If, for some reason, you cannot attend either meeting, please email us to make other arrangements. Or you can send an authorized representative to the meeting. If you plan to send someone in your place, please email us with the 4-H member’s name(s) and who you are assigning to pick up the packets.

We hope to see you all there and have a great day.
