Let’s give a big congratulations to our club members who brought home awards in the Carcass Contest! Jessie McCrimmon: 1st for Swine; Trinity Dunham: 2nd for Beef; Josh Ryan: 3rd in Goat. Very impressive! For a small livestock club, that’s awesome!
Livestock and Animal record books are due to Cindy by Thursday, September 15. You can bring them to the HCH Club Picnic at Fairgrounds Park tonight at 6:00 p.m. or bring them to her office at Construction Supply House.
This is the last step to completing your livestock and animal project for this year. Included are record books for Beef, Dairy Cattle, Dog, Cat, Goat, Horse, Alpaca/Llama, Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep, and Swine.

With the change in weather coming this weekend I would like to remind everyone of responsible management practices. It is likely that animals can experience some discharge from their nose with this sudden change in temperature and even develop some respiratory issues. Being proactive in this situation, I would recommend members blanket any market animals to help keep them warm in the colder temperatures during the evening and early morning hours. I would also like to remind you of the importance of providing dry bedding underneath your shelter where animals can lay to get out of the wind.
I would also like to invite you to the second workshop for the Sheep/Goat workshop series coming up Monday, May 23, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. in the warm-up arena at the Ranch. We invite you to bring your animals to start with some basic showmanship techniques. We will have additional information that will be covered at the beginning of the workshop so please be prepared for your animals to be tied up for a short duration while we discuss some other material. If your animal is displaying any signs of illness, please avoid bringing them.
If you have any questions please reach out to me or any of the project key leaders.

Sheep and Goat Workshop: Tonight, May 16 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. in the warm-up arena at The Ranch.
The key leaders as well as Bailey Schilling will make introductions. Then there will be a discussion of project objectives, goals for the workshops, setting goals as 4-H members, the importance of the record book, animal handling, animal feeding, and an industry overview for both sheep and goats.
We will NOT have animals present for this workshop.
Please contact Bailey Schilling, Livestock Extension Agent, with any questions.

I hope that you all are doing well and excited to be involved with different workshop opportunities leading up to the county fair with your project animal. You are more than welcome to attend these opportunities without having an animal present.
Along with that, we are also approaching the May 31 deadline for you to submit pictures of your animal on 4HOnline. We are asking that you submit a profile view. Please find instruction sheets for each species below.

Poultry members, we are still working with the State Extension Office and communicating with the State Vet to gain a better understanding of this virus and how it is going to impact the shows at the Larimer County Fair. Please refer to the multiple emails sent out earlier this month pertaining to HPAI and preventative steps that should be taken to reduce infection of your flocks. Workshops will still be taking place in the absence of live animals for the poultry program.

The Carcass Contest Awards Night was held on Monday evening. Congrats to all of the HCH Club Members! Click here to download the PDF of the results, with High Country Handiworkers members highlighted in yellow.
Here is an opportunity for lamb and goat members. If you have an animal on feed for the Stock Show, this is a chance to get some feedback on your project before that show.
For members who do not have an animal on feed, this is still a good time to learn from some very experienced showmen.
Please refer to the flyer for more information.
If you have any questions, reach out to extension agent Bailey Schilling.
